Google Desktop Search (/)
Google has a great tool to search the internet but don’t let it put it’s eye inside your computer. And if you do,... do it behind a fine-tuned firewall that checks outgoing communication (no not XP’s SE wannabe firewall) & for paranoiac reasons, install a registry monitor like Spybot’s TeaTimer. Why? Basic security, nothing more. Desktop Search sniffels in & stores your files from Outlook mail, AOL instant Messenger, chatsessions and IE visited webpages. Desktop Search has it’s own cache that stores & bulks on your HD. It makes it a piece of cake for other users to find your personal information - if you share your PC. It would be hazardous to send out a confidential document ‘cos it would be found long after you’ve emptied the Outlook trash bin. Besides,... it’s nothing New. Copernic has it and soon Microsoft and Apple will offer it.
This one,... I will let pass by,... like GMail.

Some soft has the nasty intention to obtrude itselves in Windows Startup.
Even if you close them down,... next time you start up your PC, they are there again... Nondisputandum indisputably dislikes this! Some examples:

Live streaming player Boombox seemed a great addenda. Some competition for the awesome streaming music distributor Live365.
But while Live365 provides only streaming music,... Boombox gives you their Boombox AND as a bonus a logo (link) to an Internet Casino... even if you choose not to accept it... and to my surprise Ad Aware found parts (5) in Windows & the registry of a as malware detected ‘thing’ called Jajsoft.csrs.

All the reviewed free tools & sites have the potential to compete with commercial alike. The few exclusively commercial initiatives reviewed here can not expect above a (4.5/5) rating. Not that they are less than absolutely superb. It is considered outstanding to offer absolutely superb software for a fair price. It is absolutely superb when one can have more than basic technology or information without the obligation to pay for it. I do think it is fair to pay when equivalent free alternatives are unavailable and to donate when free software makes a difference. You will not find any reviews below a (4/5) rating. The symbol (/) means that the software or website is reviewed but at the time for some reason excluded as a valuable option.
