Speed-up

Download Firefox and (experimentally) learn it to enable pipelining to speed-up surfing. (5/5)

Info: Mozilla Firefox Browser - Mozilla Firefox Support - more tips and tricks (5/5)

Boost the speed of browsing by using several connections at the same time. Personally I would limit the pipelining below 50 because it puts extra pressure on the hosting server. But you are free to give it a try. This is experimental and it works fine on a fairly potent computer:

Where you would write the URL, you write: about:config > than ENTER
Scroll down to adapt the values of the following set-ups:
> network.http.pipelining > change the value to TRUE
> network.http.pipelining.maxrequest > change the value to a higher number (example: 25)
> network.http.proxy.pipelining > change the value to TRUE
> create an new variable by right-clicking and selecting: NEW > INTEGER.
   > this variable is to be given the name: nglayout.initialpaint.delay and secondly the value: 0
Do this at your own risk. Read t
he disclaimer.

An alternative to tune your Mozilla browser is to install
Firetune from Total Idea. This tool does a lot more with Firefox.

 SysDefrag (EXPERT USE)

Info: SysDefrag (4/5)

Besides your monthly full disk defragmentation,... it is a good idea to defragment your System Files frequently to keep your system at top speed. PageDefrag provides you the ability to see how fragmented your paging files and Registry hives are, and to defragment them on reboot. In addition, it defragments event log files and Windows 2000/XP hibernation files (where system memory is saved when you hibernate a laptop). This tiny tool simply needs to be unpacked and stored in a file of your choice. It is a simple executable that allows you to set-up the possibility to defrag your system files on reboot, or on every boot.
The first time I re-booted, I got a black screen. After a soft return, it worked fine and still does.

Speedup Windows startup. Kill the splash screen

If you want to speedup (a bit) Windows startup,... Kill the splash screen (startup logo).

  •  Click START > RUN
  • Type MSCONFIG in the run box
  • Go to the Boot.ini tab
  • Check the box /NOGUIBOOT
  • Klick OK

Win time by reducing in the same tab the Time-out to 3 seconds. (If this is not allready the case.)
And don't start messing with the rest of the MSCONFIG if you do not know what you are doing.

Nondisputandum reviews the best free software

(/)

Sounds good, but for some reason not an option.

The ratings reflect the valor of software & websites for the active internet user, focussing on advanced comfort & a honest policy towards the client. All the reviewed free tools & sites have the potential to compete with commercial software. The few exclusively commercial initiatives reviewed here can not expect above a (4.5/5) rating. Not that they are less than superb but it is considered outstanding to offer superb software for a fair price. It is absolutely superb when one can have it without the obligation to pay for it. I do think it is fair to pay when equivalent free alternatives are unavailable and to donate when free software makes a difference. You will not find software reviewed below a (4/5) rating. The symbol (/) means that the software or website is reviewed but at the time for some reason excluded as a valuable option. Software or websites with a (/) code however have the potential to be selected if only: no nags, no aggressive public relations, no malware, no trackware, no tricks whatsoever, no harmful intentions. Read the disclaimer and enjoy the Nondisputandum project.
